MP Kuching, Dr Kelvin Yii encourages youngsters to go into sports activities.

KUCHING: In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles among young Sarawakians, Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has launched the Power Pickle Programme, offering free weekly pickleball lessons throughout the month of June.

He said the initiative targets youths under the age of 25 and aims to introduce them to the fast-growing sport of pickleball, which combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong with four structured training sessions will be held on June 7, 14, 21, and 28, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Pickle Pro Court, Tabuan Laru.

Dr Yii pointed out that the programme is designed not only to improve physical coordination and reflexes but also to reduce screen dependency and build stronger social and teamwork skills among young people.

“Physical activity plays an essential role in youth development, and I hope programmes like this will inspire more young Sarawakians to take up healthy and engaging recreational sports,” he said.

Participants will receive coaching from experienced trainers, with all equipment provided, he stated and to ensure focused and quality training, only 32 slots are available on a first come, first served basis.

Interested youths are encouraged to register via the link provided on Dr Kelvin Yii’s official Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/DrKelvinYii.

Pickleball has been gaining popularity worldwide, particularly in North America and Asia, due to its accessible and dynamic gameplay. The sport is increasingly seen as a fun, family-friendly form of exercise that suits players of all ages and skill levels.

Dr Yii added that the programme also offers an opportunity to strengthen bonds among peers and families through shared activity and friendly competition.
