KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development will look into allegations concerning counterfeit Kenyalang Gold Cards, following public concerns raised by politicians.
Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, when contacted by Utusan Sarawak, confirmed that an investigation will be conducted into the matter.
This follows a statement by Sim Kiat Leng, Special assistant to Stampin MP, who expressed serious concern over the alleged issuance of fake Kenyalang Gold Cards.
Sim, in his statement yesterday, said he deeply regretted the non-compliance and possible counterfeiting involving the Kenyalang Gold Card, a state initiative meant to benefit senior citizens.
He cited a recent announcement by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch, which alleged that some SUPP members including a former election candidate and his team were involved in questionable practices related to the application and issuance of the cards.
“This is a matter that touches on the integrity and honesty of those involved. If true, it could amount to fraud against the public,” Sim stated.
The Kenyalang Gold Card was designed to support senior citizens in Sarawak, offering benefits such as discounts on groceries, food, medical care, communication, transportation, and even death benefits.
Fatimah assured that her ministry takes the allegation seriously and will carry out the necessary inquiries to ensure public trust in the programme is upheld.
