KUCHING: The SUPP Kuching Branch attended the ‘Nezha Third Prince Birthday Celebration’ at Hong Shan Shi Temple, where they offered incense and prayers while engaging warmly with temple leaders and devotees in conjunction of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The group later joined the festivities along Carpenter Street and Ewe Hai Street, where food stalls, lion dances, choir and calligraphy performances, cultural dances, and public square dancing brought festive cheer to the crowd.

Datuk Lily Yong, one of the festival’s founders and Chairman of SUPP Kuching Branch who is guest of honour was accompanied by Councillor Nicholas Wung, SUPP Kuching Branch Youth Chairman, together with several party leaders and members.

Wung, who distributed mini mooncakes to performers, said the festival held a special place in his heart.

“I first took part in this festival as a student in 2003, when I received a certificate signed by the then chairpersons. This festival is not just about mooncakes and lanterns, but about unity and cultural exchange. It stands as a lasting symbol of Sarawak’s diversity and harmony,” he said.

He expressed hope that this spirit of togetherness would continue to inspire younger generations, adding that Sarawak’s example of multicultural harmony should serve as a model for the nation.

The evening was also attended by party leaders, youth members, and women’s wing representatives, who joined the community in celebrating the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.
