Michael Kong: Extended petrol subsidy to support licensed e-hailing drivers

Utusan Sarawak 2 days ago
MICHAEL Kong asks Federal government to assist e-hailing in petrol subsidy.

KUCHING: The Federal Government’s decision to extend additional RON95 petrol subsidies to full-time e-hailing drivers reflects its recognition of their vital role in Malaysia’s transport network, said LPKP Sarawak Chairman Michael Kong.

“Starting from September 30, about 16 million Malaysians aged 16 and above with a valid MyKad and active driving licence can now enjoy RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre, with a monthly cap of 300 litres,” he said.

“In view of the significant contribution of full-time e-hailing drivers, the government has agreed to grant them extended fuel subsidy limits effective October 15, 2025. This initiative aims to help them sustain their operations while managing fuel costs more effectively.”

Kong explained that LPKP Sarawak, in collaboration with APAD and LPKP Sabah, is working closely with licensed e-hailing operators to compile verified lists of registered drivers. The data will be submitted to the relevant federal ministries to ensure all eligible e-hailing drivers in Sarawak receive the additional subsidy.

“Beyond providing financial relief, this initiative also strengthens efforts to curb illegal e-hailing activities. Since the subsidy is only available to registered drivers under licensed operators, it encourages compliance and enables enforcement agencies to identify and act against unlicensed operators more efficiently,” he added.

Kong stated that LPKP Sarawak’s commitment to work with stakeholders to improve regulatory compliance while ensuring legitimate e-hailing drivers continue to receive fair support and protection under government policies.
