BAU: Mas Gading MP Mordi Bimol welcomed the government’s decision to strengthen border security in Sarawak, particularly in areas within his constituency.
This followed announcement by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail during the RMK13 debate winding-up session.
Mordi expressed appreciation for the minister’s announcement that RM28 million has been approved to build seven new security control posts, including at Raso 1 in Lundu and Stass in Bau.
“These security posts have long been awaited by border villagers who face threats each year from smuggling of controlled and subsidised goods, as well as encroachments on native customary land,” he said.
Mordi stressed the need for the posts to be completed quickly, manned full-time by security personnel, and equipped with modern monitoring systems such as drones, CCTV, and strategic communication centres.
He also urged the government to expedite the construction of the RM50 million ICQS (Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security) Complex in Serikin, which is still at the tender evaluation stage and scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026.
“As a legal entry point from Kalimantan, Indonesia to Bau, the ICQS Serikin is critical not only to strengthen immigration control but also to stimulate legitimate and organised cross-border economic growth,” Mordi said.
He highlighted the need to upgrade the ageing ICQS Biawak facilities, which he noted are no longer adequate for current operational needs, to ensure they meet modern security requirements.
“Border security is also closely tied to the economy and with well-guarded borders there will be reduced losses from smuggling, create legitimate trade opportunities, attract investment, and safeguard the wellbeing of the people,” he added.
