KUCHING: Marine Commanding officer, ACP AB Rahman Mat Hasan confined that a local man was arrested, and untaxed goods worth approximately RM724,570 were seized during an operation by the Marine Intelligence Unit (URM) of PPM W5 Kuching, yesterday.
Rahman stated that the arrest took place at around 11.00 am during Op Taring Landai, following intelligence received by the team and officers inspected a business premises at Titan Ventures Company, No.40 Jalan Penrissen 10 Miles Bazaar, Kota Padawan.
“During the inspection, we found various alcoholic beverages and different types of cigarettes that did not have tax stamps from the Royal Customs Malaysia,” he said.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of committing an offence under the Customs Act 1967. The seized goods were handed over to the BJSJ Investigating Officer, IPD Padawan, Sarawak, for further action and investigation.
Under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967, anyone found in possession of non-compliant or prohibited goods may face a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.
Rahman urged businesses and individuals to comply with customs regulations to avoid severe legal consequences.
