EVIDENCE from a drug bust in Kuching showing the substances believed to be methamphetamine, ketamine, and cannabis.

KUCHING: A 28-year-old local man with a string of previous offences was arrested and seized various types of drugs worth about RM1,750 during an operation along Jalan Canna.

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrest took place at about 2.30 pm yesterday when the police team conducted a check on the suspect and found several packets containing substances believed to be drugs.

“During the inspection, police found five transparent plastic packets containing crystalline substances suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 12 grams, one packet of white powder suspected to be ketamine weighing 0.4 grams, and two plastic packets of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis weighing 2.25 grams,” he said today.

He added that police also found one red and silver foil-wrapped pill suspected to be Erimin 5 weighing 0.25 grams, two plastic bottles containing 10 ml of liquid suspected to be cannabis extract, and another bottle with 2 ml of similar liquid.

“The total estimated market value of the drugs seized is RM1,750,” Alexson said.

A preliminary urine test on the suspect returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“Further checks revealed that the suspect has a criminal record with four previous cases under Section 39A (1), one under Section 12(2), and six under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a penalty of imprisonment between two and five years and between three and nine strokes of the cane upon conviction.
