KUCHING: A man in his early 20s from Bau lost RM800 after being deceived into purchasing a Samsung S24 Ultra smartphone through a fake online account on Instagram named “lelong_phone_official.”

Bau District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Haide A Rahman said the victim was attracted by the unusually low price of RM300 and made three separate payments to an unknown bank account on October 6.

“After the payments were made, the victim was repeatedly instructed to transfer more money under various excuses. He became suspicious and realised he had been scammed, suffering a total loss of RM800,” he said.

Mohd Haide advised the public not to engage with unknown callers. He said if things are sold extremely cheap, they have to be extra cautious.
