KUCHING: A man was brought before the Serian Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of obstructing enforcement officers from the Serian Health Department while they were carrying out their official duties last week.
According to the charge, the accused had intentionally obstructed a health enforcement officer who was taking action against him for smoking inside a food outlet in Balai Ringin, Serian, around 9.50am on Sept 27.
The accused allegedly acted provocatively, refused to cooperate, and hurled abusive words at the officer.

The charge was framed under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, if convicted.
Police from the Serian District Criminal Investigation Department arrested the unemployed suspect at about 4.50pm the same day after a police report was lodged.
No plea was recorded before Magistrate Stella Eve Bliten. Bail was not offered, and the accused has been remanded at Puncak Borneo Prison in Kuching pending mention of the case on Oct 8 at the Serian Magistrate’s Court.
