
KUCHING: The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Lundu District Police Headquarters arrested a 41-year-old local man and seized drugs worth RM12,400 during an operation in Kampung Rukam, Lundu.
Lundu police chief Superintendent Sudirman Kram said the arrest was made around 2 pm on October 20 following intelligence received by the district narcotics team and the task force unit.
“During the operation in front of a house at Kampung Rukam, police arrested a local man and seized 248 blue pills suspected to be Ecstasy, weighing approximately 100.93 grams with an estimated street value of RM12,400,” he said.
Sudirman added that a urine test conducted on the suspect returned positive for drugs. The man, however, had no prior criminal record.
“The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction. If not sentenced to death, the offender is liable to at least 12 strokes of the cane,” he said.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days, from October 21 to 27, to assist with further investigations.
Sudirman revealed that the Lundu Narcotics Division has recorded 115 arrests for drug trafficking and abuse offences between January and October 20 this year.
“This success is the result of continuous intelligence gathering and enforcement. The Royal Malaysia Police will not compromise with any party involved in drug trafficking. Possessing, distributing, or protecting drug activities are serious offences under the law,” he stressed.
He comfirmed that the Lundu Narcotics Division remains committed to combating drugs to protect the current and future generations.
