KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued a total of 11,511 summonses, while the police recorded 8,803 summonses in 2024, said Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Chairman Michael Kong.
Kong disclosed that these figures highlight ongoing issues in the sector, particularly concerning overloading, non-compliance with permits, and safety breaches.
He stressed the need for stricter enforcement to address these issues, saying that the statistics are concerning and firm action is needed to ensure the safety of all road users.
He said LPKP Sarawak will refine its policies to impose stricter penalties on companies that fail to comply with regulations in order to create a safer and more responsible commercial vehicle industry.
Kong also called for public cooperation in tackling traffic violations and urged the public to play an active role by reporting violations involving commercial vehicles.
“Their assistance allows JPJ Sarawak to take swift action and helps us carry out our responsibilities more effectively,” he stated.
Members of the public can report violations via WhatsApp to the LPKP Sarawak hotline at 011-24252754 or email JPJ Sarawak at aduantrafik.sarawak@jpj.gov.my.
Kong emphasized that through a combination of strict enforcement and public participation, a safer and more regulated road environment can be achieved.
