LPKP Sarawak welcomes enhanced BUDI95 scheme for e-hailing drivers

KUCHING: Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) chairman Michael Kong Feng Nian has welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to enhance the BUDI95 subsidy scheme for e-hailing drivers.

He said under the revised mechanism, additional fuel quotas will now be allocated based on each driver’s monthly travel distance: Less than 2,000 km – No additional quota,2,000 to 5,000 km – additional 300 litres and more than 5,000 km – additional 500 litres.

“This new structure ensures that the BUDI95 subsidy is distributed fairly according to each driver’s actual needs and working mileage. It strengthens the targeted subsidy initiative while safeguarding the livelihoods of e-hailing drivers and airport taxi operators,” he said in a statement today.

To ensure accurate implementation, Kong said LPKP Sarawak will work closely with all e-hailing operators to obtain verified monthly journey records for their drivers. The data collected will enable the Federal Government to allocate the appropriate additional quotas under BUDI95 each month.

He added that the revised mileage thresholds were determined through data-driven analysis and surveys conducted by the Ministry of Finance using information obtained from e-hailing operators since September 2025.

“The decision to reduce the minimum mileage threshold from 3,000 km to 2,000 km reflects the government’s recognition that e-hailing drivers often cover significant distances even when not ferrying passengers. This adjustment ensures the BUDI95 subsidy remains sufficient to support the operational needs of active drivers,” he explained.

Kong stressed that LPKP Sarawak will continue working closely with relevant ministries and agencies to monitor, refine, and strengthen the implementation of the BUDI95 scheme for both e-hailing and taxi drivers.

“This reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the transport industry, addressing on-ground realities, and ensuring that Sarawak’s drivers receive the assistance they deserve under a fair and transparent subsidy framework,” he added.
