LPKP Sarawak meets Maxim to strengthen compliance and passenger safety

Utusan Sarawak 4 weeks ago
MICHAEL Kong meeting with Maxim and relevant authorities to discuss on safety.

KUCHING: Wanting to ensure the safety of both drivers and passengers remains a top priority for Lembaga Pengangkutan Kota dan Perkhidmatan (LPKP) Sarawak, Chairman Michael Kong today met with representatives from e-hailing company Maxim to discuss operations, licensing, and potential strategic collaborations in the state.

During the meeting, Kong stressed the need for strict adherence to existing laws and regulations, particularly the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act, to safeguard all stakeholders while maintaining the integrity of the e-hailing industry in Sarawak.

Maxim highlighted that the company has invested nearly RM10 million in Sarawak since its inception and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the state’s economy.

The company also assured authorities of its willingness to cooperate fully and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Recent measures by Maxim include granting system access only to drivers with valid E-Hailing Vehicle Permits and ensuring that all operating vehicles have proper insurance coverage.

LPKP Sarawak also raised concerns regarding incidents where riders were asked to share rides with unknown third parties or switch to unregistered vehicles.

Maxim has assured that such practices are unacceptable and that drivers found engaging in these behaviours will face strict disciplinary action, including potential bans.

Kong urged the public to continue providing feedback to both Maxim and LPKP Sarawak to help maintain a safe, reliable, and compliant e-hailing ecosystem in the state.
