KUCHING: A mural painting initiative at Lions Nursing Home brought together volunteers and students in a meaningful act of service, ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Organised with the support of volunteers and students led by Principal Jong Siaw Hui, the effort not only brightened the home’s walls but also gave the young participants an opportunity to learn the value of compassion and respect for the elderly.
Speaking about the project, volunteer coordinator Gerald Goh said he was initially uncertain about fitting the request into his schedule but felt it was an important responsibility to accept.

“When Judy Kho from Lions Nursing Home reached out and asked if I could help paint a mural, I gladly agreed.
“But I knew this was more than just about painting, so I invited Fook Liew and Principal Jong to join in. Having the students participate gave them a chance to understand the importance of giving back and caring for our elders,” he said.
Goh added that after completing the mural, the students requested to meet the residents and tour the facility, a gesture that touched both staff and volunteers.
“With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, we also shared mooncakes with the residents, wishing them good health and festive joy. It was a day that left us all busy, yet fulfilled; tired, yet deeply grateful,” he said.
Goh expressed his appreciation to Judy Kho, Fook Liew, Principal Jong, and the nursing home staff for their support in making the event a success.
