Landslide remedial works in Tabuan Heights to commence immediately

WORKS on the affected site starts.

KUCHING: Remedial works to address the landslide incident at Tabuan Heights will begin immediately, following months of coordination and preparation, said Political Secretary to Premier, Kho Teck Wan.

The landslide occurred on November 30 resulted in the collapse of a retention wall and caused damage to the backyards of four residential properties.

Since the incident, Kho said multiple meetings were held with the affected homeowners, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak, the Fire and Rescue Department, Kuching South City Council (MBKS), and other relevant agencies to identify a safe and effective solution.

She said as the repair was not part of a planned state project, DID Sarawak had to go through the necessary procedures to secure funding.

The process included the construction of a temporary retention wall using geo bags, establishing communications with the affected homeowners, designing a new drainage system, and obtaining budget approval for the permanent works.

The project has since been officially handed over, and a site briefing was held last Sunday with DID engineers, contractors, local community leaders, and councillors.

Residents were briefed on the construction timeline and scope of works.

The remedial works include the construction of a new retaining wall as part of slope stabilization measures, along with backfilling soil erosion that occurred in the backyards due to runoff. The works are expected to take approximately six months to complete.
