KUCHING: DAPSY Sarawak Treasurer Wong King Yii has urged urgent action from the authorities after months of complaints from residents over yellowish and muddy water flowing from their taps.
“Since June 2025, I have been inundated with complaints, yet the authorities have failed to come up with a long-term solution. This is not a minor inconvenience but a daily hardship that has gone on for far too long,” Wong said.
During a visit to homes at Lorong Angsana and Lorong Sungai Maong Tengah 11B this morning, Wong said residents were frustrated that they had to let taps run for minutes every day to flush out dirty water, causing their water bills to spike. Some also complained of unpleasant smells, forcing them to rely on bottled water or install costly water filter systems.
“How can the authority expect people to pay their bills on time when they themselves cannot guarantee something as basic as clean water? Clean water is not a privilege; it is a basic right,” he stressed.
Wong urged the Sarawak government and the water board to immediately address the root cause of the recurring problem and make a public commitment to ensure every household in Kuching has access to clean and safe water.
“The people of Kuching deserve accountability, not excuses. They deserve results, not empty promises,” Wong added.
