
KUCHING: Kuching police arrested a suspect in connection with a criminal intimidation and vehicle vandalism case that occurred on Thursday.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the incident happened at around 8.16 a.m. at the Laksamana Cheng Ho junction in Kuching.
He said a 47-year-old local man driving a Proton Juara was reportedly blocked by another vehicle, a Datsun. The suspect allegedly got out of his vehicle in anger, tried to open the victim’s car door but failed, then threw an iron pipe at the car while shouting at the victim to get out.
Acting on the report, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of Kuching District Police arrested a 32-year-old local man believed to be involved in the case at a parking area along Jalan Keranji Tabuan Desa around 11.50 p.m. on the same day.
Alexson said the suspect has seven previous criminal records involving theft and gambling. Preliminary urine screening tests on the suspect returned negative results.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine, and Section 427 of the Penal Code, which also provides for imprisonment of up to two years or a fine. The Kuching court has approved a four-day remand for the suspect starting today, 17 October 2025.
Alexson urged the public to remain calm and exercise restraint on the roads, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and to report any information related to the incident to the nearest police station.
