KUCHING: Kuching police have arrested two men and seized methamphetamine valued at RM774 during an operation at Lorong Stampin.

Kuching police chief SAC Alexson Naga Chabu said the arrests were made at about 4.50 pm on November 15 where his team from the Sg Maong Police Station stopped two men aged 23 and 31 at the Lorong Stampin junction.

A search on both suspects led to the discovery of two packets of transparent plastic containing crystal like substances believed to be methamphetamine.

The items seized were one packet weighing 5.57 grams and another weighing 1.47 grams. The total estimated market value of the drugs is RM774.

Alexson said both suspects also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine during an initial urine screening. Checks further confirmed that neither suspect had any previous criminal record.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Upon conviction, the offence carries a jail term of not less than 2 years and not more than 5 years, and whipping of not less than 3 strokes and not more than 9 strokes.

Both suspects have been remanded for three days from 17 to 19 November 2025 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist investigations.

Alexson stressed that this success was made possible through ongoing surveillance and cooperation from the public. He reiterated that the police will not compromise with anyone involved in drug possession, distribution, or protection of drug activities, as such offences are serious under Malaysian law.

He added that the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department remains committed to combating drugs to protect the current and future generations. Drugs remain the country’s number one enemy.
