
KUCHING: Kuching police have arrested a 28-year-old local man believed to be involved in an attempted outrage of modesty incident reported by a 34-year-old local woman.
Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim lodged a police report on June 30, stating that around 7.15 am that day, while she was in the Jalan Sultan Tengah area, she was approached from behind by an unknown man who allegedly attempted to behave inappropriately.
Alexson added that acting on the information provided, police successfully apprehended the suspect at around 6.15 pm the same day near the Jalan Taman Sukma area.
A preliminary urine test was conducted on the suspect and returned negative for drugs, but further checks revealed that the man has two prior criminal records.
The case is being investigated under Sections 354 and 511 of the Penal Code, which carry a maximum sentence of ten years’ imprisonment, a fine, or whipping.
