KUCHING: Kuching Member of Parliament and Political Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources, Kelvin Yii, sustained a shoulder injury in a road accident along the highway near Taiping late last night.

Yii was on his way to Penang to represent the Human Resources Minister at the Annual Advanced Innovation & Manufacturing Asia Week 2025 when the vehicle he was travelling in skidded and crashed into the roadside barrier. The accident happened during heavy rain and poor visibility.

Recounting the incident to Utusan Sarawak, Yii said he had been on an international Zoom call when the car spun out of control. “The next thing I remember was my phone flying out of my hands as the car spun across the road before hitting the side,” he said.

He said it will take between two to three months for him to heal completely.

Both Yii and his driver escaped serious injury, but he suffered a fractured clavicle and was taken by ambulance to Taiping Hospital. He is now resting and will need to wear a sling for several weeks.

“I am grateful to the healthcare staff at Taiping Hospital Emergency Department. Thankfully, I was wearing a seatbelt even though I was seated at the back, which may have limited my injury and even saved my life,” he said.

Yii also apologised for being unable to attend several scheduled events in Penang due to the accident and reminded the public to always wear seatbelts, whether in front or back seats.
