KUCHING: The road condition at the junction of Jalan Wenhong and Jalan Kuching-Bau has deteriorated badly over the past few months, posing serious danger to motorists, said Michael Kong, Special Assistant to Chong Chieng Jen.
He said the road surface has sunk significantly, leaving behind a large pothole that many vehicles cannot avoid due to its close proximity to the main Kuching-Bau Road.
“This runs the risk of causing substantial damage to vehicles and endangering the safety of road users. It is unacceptable that such a critical stretch of road has been left unattended for so long,” he said.
Kong urged the relevant authorities to immediately inspect the site and carry out proper repair works, stressing that temporary patching will not be sufficient.
“What is needed is a comprehensive resurfacing and stabilization of the road base to ensure long-term durability. This is especially crucial as Jalan Wenhong serves a semi-industrial area and houses the Fire Department, with frequent heavy machinery and industrial vehicles using this route,” he said.
He added that with such heavy usage, the road must be repaired properly to withstand long-term wear and tear and to ensure the safety and accessibility of all road users.
