
KUCHING: A foreigner who was an ART worker died after he was knocked by a sports car at around 6.50 pm on Tuesday along Jalan Airport heading towards Padungan.
Kuching Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, initial investigations revealed that the victim, a 52-year-old a general worker was crossing the road when he was struck by a car.
“The impact caused the victim to suffer serious head injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Sarawak General Hospital,” Alexson said.
He added that the driver, a local aged 54 has been detained to assist with investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
If convicted, the offender may face imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than ten years, along with a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000.
ACP Alexson also appealed to members of the public who witnessed the incident or have relevant information to contact Traffic Investigation Officer ASP Lucas Apin at 013-8246881 or 082-259900, or to report to the nearest police station.
“Road users are reminded to stay focused and cautious while driving, and to always comply with traffic laws to avoid accidents that could endanger themselves and others,” he said.
