KOTA SAMARAHAN: Samarahan District Police Chief, Supt Damaterius Lautin said a 32-year-old man was arrested early on Tuesday after attempting to escape from a police drug raid in Desa Ilmu, Kota Samarahan.
The suspect from Sabah, was apprehended after jumping from a third-floor rented room in an attempt to flee.
Damaterius said the raid was carried out at 10.30 am today based on information suggesting the location was involved in drug abuse activities.
He said police knocked on the door of a shophouse asking the occupant to open but no one came. They heard a loud bang and public screamed indicating someone had jumped.
Damaterius said police quickly responded and found the suspect sitting by a drain near the building, suffering injuries to his ankles, knees, and left palm, believed to have been caused by the fall.
A preliminary search found no illegal substances on him. However, a subsequent drug test revealed that he tested positive for methamphetamines, leading to his arrest under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The suspect was admitted to the Kota Samarahan Health Clinic for treatment of suspected fractures to both heels and he admitted to being involved in drug abuse since early 2023.
He also disclosed that he had been obtaining drugs from an unidentified supplier through phone calls around the Kampung Tanjong Bundong area.
Damaterius confirmed that they are actively pursuing the supplier, who remains unidentified. Authorities are expected to gather more intelligence from the suspect to further the investigation.
No prior criminal records were found on the suspect and he was released on police bail due to his injuries and will remain under investigation.
This incident highlights ongoing efforts by local authorities to combat drug abuse in the region, with further actions expected to follow as the investigation continues.
