KUCHING: Residents of Lorong Stampin Barat 4 can look forward to better drainage and fewer flood woes as work officially begins on a RM250,000 project to upgrade the area’s aging earth drains to concrete ones.

The project, funded under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2025, was launched with a site visit by Kota Sentosa State assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, who also handed over the Letter of Award to the appointed contractor, Bard Supply and Services Company, through a “cabut undi” process.

The upgrade will be overseen by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), is expected to be completed by November this year.

Speaking at the event, Yap said the initiative was in direct response to persistent requests from residents, especially those living near SK Laksamana, who have been dealing with poor drainage, water ponding, and erosion for years.

Although it is a simple drainage project, but for the people living here, it means peace of mind, said Yap.

He stressed the importance of quality workmanship and timely delivery, adding that he will continue to work closely with DID to monitor the project’s progress.

The upgrade is expected to improve stormwater flow, reduce flash flooding, and make the neighbourhood cleaner and safer for residents.

Officers from DID and the appointed contractor were also present during the visit.
