Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian’s mother passes away at age 83

THE late Puan Sri Dato Amar Lim Su Kheng.

KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of his beloved mother, Puan Sri Datin Amar Lim Su Kheng, who died peacefully at the family home this evening, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on 20 March 1942 and passed away on 17 November 2025, at the age 83.

Dr Sim said he has lost a mother who gave him unconditional love throughout his life. He described her as someone who was always frugal with herself and often reminded the family that she walked barefoot to school during the Second World War, yet she was consistently generous with her love and support for relatives, friends, communities and charitable organisations close to her heart.

He said she was not only the wife of Tan Sri Datuk Amar Sim Kheng Hong, who once served as the first Vice President One of Sarawak Badan Amal Tenaga Isteri Isteri SABATI and held various roles in SUPP and other nongovernmental organisations. She was also a doctor and a mother who understood the demands of public service and showed compassion for the long hours her children spent at work and away from the family over the years.

Dr Sim added that she was a loving grandmother who devoted much of her time to her grandchildren, Enson and Simson, guiding their upbringing and schooling while instilling in them strong family values and a deep love for Sarawak.

He said their mother will be deeply missed by every member of the family.

Dr Sim expressed his gratitude for the prayers from relatives and friends, the support from immediate family members, close family friends and the palliative care provided by the Oncology unit of Sarawak General Hospital, Two Three Lodge and iCare Home Nursing. He also thanked his colleagues, friends and communities across Sarawak for their understanding in allowing him to scale back his daily schedule over the past two months so he could spend time at his mother’s bedside.

The wake will be held at the family home at 100 Jalan Wan Abdul Rahman, Kenyalang Park, Kuching. Funeral arrangements will be announced soon.
