KUCHING: The DBKU Road Race 3.0 cycling championship will take place this Sunday, September 7, covering a 126.1 km route across Kuching, Padawan, and Bau.
The race will begin at the Heroes’ Monument, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, and end at Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Headquarters.
Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) has been tasked to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety during the event.
Deputy commissioner of Police, DCP Saifullizan Ishak said that 59 police personnel, including 6 senior officers and 53 rank-and-file members, will be deployed for security and traffic control. “Our main priority is to ensure the race proceeds safely and smoothly, while minimizing inconvenience to the public,” he said.
He said the police will assign a Race Team consisting of 5 senior officers and 49 personnel from JSPT, supported by 6 patrol cars and 41 high-powered motorcycles.
Several roads in Kuching, Padawan, and Bau will be used as part of the race circuit, beginning at 6.00 am until the event concludes. Full closures will be implemented from Bulatan Semariang to Bukit Siol DBKU, while other stretches will experience temporary and phased diversions.
Saifullizan reminded the public to plan their journeys early and use alternative routes. “We urge road users to obey traffic signs and instructions from police officers on duty. Enforcement under the Road Transport Act 1987 will be taken against anyone who defies lawful police orders,” he stressed.
For inquiries, the public may contact Traffic Control Officer Insp. Anselm Emang at 013-2268447 or the Kuching District Traffic Enforcement office at 082-221129 during office hours.
