KUCHING: DAPSY Sarawak Treasurer, Wong King Yii has urged the Council to take immediate action to address the long-standing drainage issue at Jalan Kepayang, which he said has been left unattended for more than a decade.
He explained that a resident had first lodged a complaint in 2014 regarding a collapsed drain outside her parent’s house, but no remedial work was carried out. Over the years, the condition worsened, and the retaining wall eventually gave way.
“The collapse has not only obstructed water flow but also created stagnant pools that have become a breeding ground for snakes and monitor lizards. More worryingly, an elderly retiree was injured while attempting to clear the blockage himself,” he said.
According to Wong, another complaint was filed through Talikhidmat on 3 September 2025, to which the Council responded that repair works were scheduled for 2026.
“After more than ten years of waiting, it is not reasonable to ask residents to endure yet another delay. The Council should give this matter urgent priority to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents,” Wong stressed.
He called on the Council to mobilise resources and carry out the repairs without further delay, noting that prolonged inaction would only compound risks and further erode public trust.
