PETRA JAYA: China Railway Engineering Corporation (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (CRECM), the Malaysian subsidiary of global infrastructure giant China Railway Group Limited, is set to take a central role in the development of the ambitious Kenyalang Smart City (KSC) project following the signing of a key agreement with Master Developer Imasa Dinasti Sdn. Bhd.
The agreement was formalised today at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly and witnessed by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof Dr. Sim Kui Hian. It marks a strategic partnership aimed at advancing Sarawak’s vision of becoming a model for sustainable, high-tech urbanisation.
CRECM, part of the Fortune Global 500-listed China Railway Group with over 120 years of engineering expertise, will bring its global capabilities to the planning and execution of KSC. The project is being led by Imasa Dinasti, a member of the TAK Group of Companies, under the leadership of Sarawak-born architect and urban planner Ar. Teo Ah Khing. Teo is known for iconic developments including Dubai’s Meydan City and Malaysia’s Putrajaya.
KSC will also house a Southeast Asian campus for Fudan University’s Institutes of Integrative Medicine. The campus will include Malaysia’s most modern teaching hospital and an Innovation and Research Centre to be jointly managed with the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre.
With the agreement in place, Imasa Dinasti and CRECM will move ahead with final planning, engineering and phased construction. Early development will focus on transport systems, core infrastructure, and the integration of renewable energy.
The signing is expected to generate significant economic benefits for Sarawak, not only through real estate and construction, but also by creating high-skilled jobs and advancing the state’s digital economy.
