KUCHING: DAPSY Stampin Chief Soo Tien Ren has raised alarm over the deteriorating condition of the children’s playground at Taman Rekreasi Wawasan Arang, describing it as a serious safety hazard that requires immediate intervention.
“We received complaints from residents about the playground being in a state of severe disrepair. Some of the swings are broken, the metal frames are rusting, and parts of the plastic slides have cracked or come loose. If children were to use these without knowing the risks, they could easily get hurt or worse,” Soo said in a statement today.
He pointed out that the issue had already been brought to the attention of the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) several months ago by nearby kindergartens, but no action has been taken. Residents also claimed that the matter was reported to the SUPP Batu Kawah branch office, but received no response.
“This kind of disregard for public safety is unacceptable. Children’s playgrounds should be safe spaces, not hidden danger zones,” he stressed.
Soo called on MPP to immediately inspect the playground and carry out the necessary repairs before a tragedy occurs and said local authority must demonstrate responsibility, efficiency, and care for the people.
“We believe in a government that listens and acts. We will not remain silent, nor will we tolerate negligence,” he added.
