KUCHING: Kuching Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed that the 16-year-old boy involved in January’s fatal multi-vehicle crash along Jalan Teo Kui Seng was detained for a day before being released on police bail.

When contacted by Utusan Sarawak, Farhan said the police took the boy into custody and recorded his statement.

He stated that the investigation is ongoing, pending reports from the Chemistry Department, Sarawak General Hospital, and PUSPAKOM to determine the appropriate charge against the suspect.

The boy, who sustained a neck injury, requires periodic follow-up treatments at the hospital.

The tragic accident occurred on January 14 when a car traveling from Jalan Lapangan Terbang towards Jalan Setia Raja lost control, veered into the opposite lane, and crashed into several vehicles.

Four victims – three men and a woman, aged between 16 and 45, were pronounced dead at the scene, while another 16-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.
