SERIAN: Bau police is calling for eye witnesses to come forward after a female motorcyclist was run over by a vehicle along KM2, Jalan Bau-Serikin early this morning resulting in her death and injuries to the pillion passenger.

Bau District Police Chief, DSP Dr Daram Ruer said the Bau Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division received information about the incident at around 5.45 am.

Initial investigations revealed that the motorcycle was heading towards Bau from Serikin when the rider lost control while negotiating a bend in the road.

It is believed that the rider and pillion passenger had swerved to avoid a trailer that had encroached into their lane, causing them to skid and fall onto the road.

Dr Daram said the pillion passenger managed to get up, but the rider, who was lying on the road, was subsequently run over by an unidentified vehicle, believed to be a car, coming from behind.

Both victims were rushed to Bau Hospital, where the female rider was pronounced dead during treatment, while the pillion passenger sustained injuries to the knee, elbow, and arm.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Dr Daram urged any witnesses to the incident to step forward and assist with the investigation.

He also reminded the public not to speculate on the case and advised road users to drive with extra caution, particularly during unpredictable weather conditions.
