KUCHING: Five individuals were convicted under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 with two of them sentenced to jail between 7 months to 14 months in a Magistrate’s Court today, said Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman.
He said three were fined between RM3,000 and RM3,500, with a default sentence of six months in prison.
The Bau Magistrate’s Court heard a series of cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, resulting in several convictions for drug-related offences.
Haide said that a total of 35 individuals pleaded guilty to offences under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The court imposed fines ranging from RM3,000 to RM4,000, while those unable to pay the fines face imprisonment of between 10 and 11 months and an additional three-year supervision order.
“Some of the offenders faced two to four separate charges under the same section,” he said.
In addition, he added that one individual pleaded guilty to an offence under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and was sentenced to 30 months in prison and three strokes of the cane.
