KUCHING: MBKS councillor Eric Tay lauded Sabah’s decision to officially recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), calling it an important milestone in Malaysia’s education landscape.
He noted that Sarawak had taken the lead by recognising the UEC several years ago, and Sabah’s move marked a new phase in the nation’s path towards educational diversity.
“Education should never be used as a political tool. It carries the mission of nurturing future generations and strengthening the nation. Only through education can we cultivate talents and channel wisdom for development,” he said in a statement today.
Tay stressed that the next crucial step for Sarawak is to provide free education, ensuring that more students can pursue their dreams without financial barriers.
He added that education must be inclusive and accessible to all, regardless of race, language, identity, or family background.
He expressed confidence that other states in Peninsular Malaysia would eventually follow suit, while nationwide recognition by the Federal Government would strengthen multicultural harmony and encourage more talents to remain in the country.
“Knowledge is power. When education is aligned with the economy, technology, and culture, Malaysia can stand tall on the global stage,” he said.
